If you put anything large and unforgiving in the port side bag, and then drop the bike, whatever is in that bag can push itself against the radiator and fan shroud, rendering the cooling fan inoperative and sending you down the road to overheating. In daily operation, I put things like kick plates (so many kick plates) and snacks in them. 🙂

For example, does the material flap around and create noise? Probably isn’t enough front area to create any strange drag sensations on a larger bike but I’d be curious to hear your thoughts.
